Since the inception of KARRTABYA it has been focusing on health related programmes. We have organised a numbers of awareness camps, health checkup camps and staff training on health regularly during the current year. Beside this the project staff are motivating the people to adopt healthy behaviors for the betterment of health status in the community.

Integrated Nutrition and Health Project

This is a continuing programme supported by CARE (India) Orissa for the improvement of Health & Nutrition status among the women & Children in the community as well as for the reduction of Child and maternal mortality rate from the society.

Community HealthThe health and nutrition status of the women and children of our district is very poor and their access to health services, information’s and counseling is limited. Women’s poor health and nutritional status, childhood infection and malnutrition are main factors, which contributes more mortality rate.

The main underlying causes of malnutrition includes inadequate access to food & nutrients, inadequate care of mothers and newborns, inadequate health services, unhealthy environments and the most important thing is lack of ideal behaviors among the beneficiaries. Considering this the organisation focused on the following activities during the year in all the 21 Sectors of the Dharmagarh Subdivision to get the expected results as per the proposal.

The focused activities were:

•    Pregnant care (with enhanced focus on NHED & Birth preparedness)
•    Newborn care at Community level.
•    Care of premature & LBW babies.
•    Maternal & Child immunization.
•    Infant feeding (colostrums feeding, exclusive breast feeding & appropriate complementary feeding)
•    10% increase in Normal grade children.
•    Supplementary feeding under 6 children.
•    Improved immunization coverage.
•    Vitamin -A solutions at due period.

HIV/AIDS Programme

KARRTABYA participate in the HIV/AIDS awareness programme in 6 GP of Junagarh Block. The programme was implemented by a network in collaboration of KARRTABYA with the support of OXFAM India, European Commission, CRHC through Paribartan.

Community HealthPeers Educators Training

110 numbers of Youths between the age group 13 to 17 and 18 to 25 both boys and girls has been given training on HIV/AIDS awareness. Out of above number 66 are male and 44 are Female. All the youth formed a group in the ratio of 1: 25 individually giving health and sex related education to their group member.



Awareness through Folk Cultural Programme

An awareness campaigning programme was also organized during the current year. 8 numbers of cultural programmes were organized in the 6 GP areas. Nearly twenty housand people saw the programme and got the information on HIV/AIDS.

Organisation of Health Camp

Keeping in view of the demand of the public there were 7 number of health camps also organized in the project area. An MBBS doctor checked up the health of the people specially who were the STD patient. Medicine was given to them on free. There were1564 patient treated in above health camp out of which 270 are RTI and STD cases. During the health camp health education was also given to the people though demonstration on health information stall and orally teaching method.

Referral to the VCCTC

There were 4 cases referred to the Voluntary Confidential Counseling & Testing Centre Bhawanipatna and treated there.

Condom outlet

8 number of Condom outlet has hanged in the village site for easy access and use of condom by the rural people. The same has been refilling by the peer educator at monthly basis. It has been observed that people are using the same after getting the information on HIV/AIDS.
