Livelihood Initiatives

+ Land and Agriculture

We focused on promotion of vegetable cultivation, adoption of new technology in agriculture, SRI method of paddy cultivation and Mechanical Transplanting of Paddy, Aerobic Rice, Mechanical Line Transplanting of Paddy, Hybrid Paddy Cultivation, Weed Management, application of Plant Nutrient, Sunflower & Hybrid Maize cultivation, Crop Diversification, Seed Treatment Campaign, marketing of vegetable through farmers group (Agriculture Information Hub) concept and Land development in tribal area with creation of water bodies & micro irrigation systems. Seed production programme in Irrigated Area. Since 2006 KARRTABYA started its work with small holding farmers depending on agriculture for their livelihoods. The association is in close contact with the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), KVKs and Regional Research station for hiring of techniques for the farmers to boost up the productivity of crop there by increasing the per capita income. Similarly, KARRTABYA has started its innovative work with ICAR, GoI under NAIP focusing target group of women and helpless. The tribal pockets of the project are included in innovative programme like introduction of nutritional crop like yam; elephant foot yam, sweet potato, tapioca etc. Self Help Groups are also being provided with machine for leaf tray, Dal processing and oil expelling. All the group members are involved with proper utilization of units so as to generate additional income. Simultaneously, KARRTABYA is involved with developing value addition for the farmers and its stake holders those who depend on agriculture. Market linkage is one of the major achievements for the community which was lacking for the farmers of interior pockets, particularly the farmers of in accessible areas able to sell their produce at reasonable price.

+ Working with Migrant People

On May Day of 2008 the sub collector of Dharmagarh told us to do a migration survey in5 GP of Dharmagarh Block of Kalahandi. The finding come out that 1833 people has gone in search of work to the south India special to Brick kiln out of these Male-1197 Female-319 and child – 310.  It is also come to know that 21 people Missing from the working field. Probably it was the first migration survey of the district. From that period we are doing migration tracking through the existing program and project. In 2019 December got opportunity to work with migrant people through MNREGA in Golamunda block. Golamunda block is one of the most migration prone area of Kalahandi district. In the year 2019 KARRTABYA started to address the issues of distress migration, along with creating more number of man days at community level to check distress migration. The key achievement of the project is as follows:-

  • In the year 2019-20 – 243447 person days created where as on 2020-21 more than twice of previous year that is 579055 percentages created. More interestingly 1944 households completed 100 days of work, 360 households completed 200 days and 2 households completed 300 days of work.
  • KARRTABYA also address the delayed payment as a result 88.218% payment make on time per witch job card holders shown their interest to work at locality under MGNREGA instead of migrating to other state.
+ Vocational Training

We are providing computer, driving, bamboo craft, woodcarving, tailoring training to the rural Youths and tailoring training especially to the child labour school students & Adolescent. Skill training to the educated youth on Agriculture ATA for Agri Entrepreneur.

+ Awareness on Schemes and Services

Creating awareness among the rural youths on different schemes and services of Government like PDS, MGNREGA, PMRY IAY through training, meeting, youth resource centre, IEC etc.

+ Income Generating Activities (IGP)

KARRTABYA has formed 270 numbers of SHG. The SHG members are self-sustainedand their economy standard has been increased through different IGP activities like Bamboo craft, dal processing unit, leaf plate making, small vending, vegetable cultivation, small shop, tiffin, Marketing of Agro & Forest Product stall etc.

+ Nonfarm Activities

90 SHGs members from 60 households were given training on Bamboo craft. Leaf plate & cup making12 nos. of Leaf Tray & cup making machine installed in 12 villages. Technical guidance & training provided to 31 SHGs members. Dal Processing: 90 SHG Members from 65 Households were trained on Dal Processing in the first year. Oil processing: Machineries were provided to 22 groups.

+ Entrepreneur Development

Skill based training are given to the youth for the running of Agro Kiosk to deal with input and buy back on farming.
