About the Project Area
The Thuamul Rampur Block, located in Kalahandi district, Odisha, consists of 24 Gram Panchayats and 287 villages. Our intervention focused on five tribal villages: Tal Nehela, Upper Nehela, Bhataguda, Chachikana, and Bijapada, covering a population of 829 (60% ST, 26% SC).
Program Objectives
The program aims to combat malnutrition and promote early learning among children aged 6 months to 5 years by:
- Providing daily nutritional support (milk and biscuits).
- Laying a foundation for lifelong healthy habits.
- Supporting cognitive, physical, and social development.
Target Group
Children aged 7 months to 5 years.
Program Components
- Nutritional Support
- Daily provision of 150 ml of milk powder and biscuits to U5 children.
- Educational Activities
- Age-appropriate learning for children aged 3–5 years, including:
- Alphabet and numeracy skills.
- Language development in the local language and Odia.
- Problem-solving, drawing, and color-filling activities.
- Educational Kits
- Educational kits with essential learning materials.
- RAHAT-Kit and Solar Light Support
- Periodic distribution of RAHAT kits to address family nutritional needs and promote health awareness.
- Solar lights provided for children in villages without electricity.
Conclusion
The Pre-School Nutrition and Education Program has effectively addressed malnutrition and laid a foundation for a healthier future. Improvements in health, attendance, and learning outcomes highlight the program's success. Continued efforts will further empower these communities and sustain positive change.
